In this role, you will plan, direct, and manage the functional activities of staff that conduct work in the clinic, provide hands-on medical surveillance exams, medical and fitness evaluations, manage technical programs and develop corrective actions associated with federal OSHA and Department of Energy (DOE) safety regulations. As the Health Services Clinic Manager, you will be responsible for advising the Health & Safety Department Head on strategies to address regulatory matters, control of laboratory and workplace safety and health hazards, to minimize liability risks to Lab staff and the wider Laboratory community.
What You Will Do:
Provide managerial and technical leadership to independently plan and direct all activities for Berkeley Lab’s Health Services Clinic.
Provide day-to-day supervision and guidance for clinic staff members, ensuring optimum delivery of services, quality of care, and value from the clinic staff.
Serve as Subject Matter Expert for matters relating to medical surveillance, placement and termination evaluations, and first aid and initial assessment of injuries and illnesses.
Partner with the Medical Director to design long-term, high-impact programs and services.
Manage health promotion activities through the Berkeley Lab Wellness Program.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with DOE counterparts at the Bay Area Site Office, and as needed, counter parts at DOE Oak Ridge.
Serve as the point of contact for the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act.
Serve on the disaster recovery team in a medical capacity and participate as a technical resource in HazMat emergencies to effectively respond to emergencies.
What is Required:
Master’s Degree with progressively responsible roles in the delivery of health care services (both occupational and non-occupational), specifically a minimum of 10 years of experience managing a clinic and 5 years as a health care practitioner in an ambulatory clinic setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
California Licensed Nurse or Nurse Practitioner (COHN or COHN-S) or Physician’s Assistant (NCCPA). Ability to become certified in Spirometry, Audiometry, and CPR.
Significant knowledge of professional concepts and theories pertaining to employee wellness, emergency preparedness, and technical expertise related to medical surveillance.
Expert knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, and other pertinent federal, state, and local regulatory requirements driving such programs and others within a multi-program national laboratory.
Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise a staff of health professionals and/or technicians.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills including experience managing sensitive issues effectively with staff of all levels.
Strong organizational and analytical skills, including experience with technical processes, budgeting, scheduling, and project management.
Must be able to perform the physical demands of this position:
Physical examination of patients (detect the signs and symptoms of illness through visual, auditory and palpatory clues).
Function efficiently in office and clinic environments, independently using standard office and medical examination equipment.
Travel via commercial airlines, including navigating airports, managing luggage, etc.
What We Prefer:
Experience in Urgent Care or the Emergency Room.
Experience in allied occupational health functions, such as industrial hygiene and occupational safety.
MBA or MPH.
Experience with Nurse Corps or Medical Specialist Corps.
